We were talking to the IDF, we were telling them that they were shelling the UNRWA compound, and . . . the warehouses where they knew that we had all the food and medicine. And particularly they had communicated every single day of the war to assist us to get those goods in, so I was saying to them why did you assist us to get it in if you’re blowing it up now, you’re burning it to the ground . . . If you hit the fuel station, UNRWA will be history . . . Initially [they were] denying that they were hitting our building – ‘no, we’re not hitting your building, we’re targeting somewhere’. [I said] ‘You are hitting [it] my dear! I am standing in my building, it is collapsing around me, there is a huge fire, you are hitting the UN compound.’ And it took us two hours to convince them that they were actually hitting the UN compound . . . We had about seven vehicles that were well alight . . . and white phosphorus was still burning on the ground. And we fought the fire hand on hand for four hours before the fire trucks arrived, and it was massive, the fire was like running water . . . And then the fire extinguishers finished, we had nothing . . . 25
